Fractional CFO services

Fractional CFO services for ecommerce brands

Senior finance support without a senior finance salary. The decisions that actually move an ecommerce brand are about cash, stock and pricing, and they are usually made alone.

  • 13-week cash-flow forecast
  • Reorder and funding decisions
  • Monthly strategy call

When an online brand needs a CFO

Most ecommerce founders do not need a full-time CFO and cannot justify one. What they need is someone senior in the room for perhaps four decisions a year, each of which is large enough to decide whether the next twelve months go well.

01

The reorder decision

Placing a purchase order is usually the biggest cash commitment an ecommerce brand makes, and it is frequently made on gut feel about what is selling, weeks before the cash consequences land.

We model it: what quantity, at what lead time, against forecast demand and the cash you will have when the balance falls due. Over-ordering is the most common way a profitable brand runs out of money.

02

The pricing decision

Raising a price feels risky, so it does not happen, and margin gets eroded instead by fee increases and ad costs that creep up without anyone deciding anything.

We model price changes against volume sensitivity and contribution, so you can see what a 5% increase would need to do to demand before it costs you money. Usually the answer is reassuring.

03

The growth decision

A new marketplace, a new product line or a step up in ad spend all consume cash before they return any, and each is normally evaluated on whether it sounds promising.

We model the cash curve: how deep the hole goes, how long before it turns, and what has to be true for it to work. That turns an instinct into a decision with a known downside.

04

The funding decision

Inventory finance, a line of credit and revenue-based funding all cost very different amounts once expressed as an annual rate, and the headline fee is rarely the real cost.

We work out what you actually need, when, and which structure is cheapest for your cycle, and prepare what a lender will ask for. Often the conclusion is that you need less than you thought, timed differently.

What our clients say

★★★★★

Bexford made switching from my previous accountant completely painless. They handled everything and my tax return was filed ahead of schedule. Highly professional and always available.

James H.Freelance IT Consultant, Austin
★★★★★

The fixed monthly fee is great — I know exactly what I'm paying. The tax efficiency advice has already saved me more than the annual fee. I'd recommend Bexford to any growing small business.

Mohammed K.Sole Proprietor, E-commerce, Denver
★★★★★

I run a small architecture practice and Bexford handles everything — quarterly bookkeeping, annual accounts, owner compensation structuring. Wish I'd found them sooner. Absolutely five stars.

Fractional CFO questions, answered

A senior finance lead who works with you part-time rather than as a full-time hire. You get the judgement of someone who has seen the decisions before, for a fraction of the cost of the role, which for most ecommerce brands is the difference between having that input and going without it.
Usually when decisions get large enough that getting one wrong hurts. Signs: you are placing purchase orders you are not certain you can fund, you cannot say which products carry the business, you are considering outside funding, or you are growing and the bank balance is not following. Revenue is a poor trigger on its own, because a brand with simple products and one channel can run much further without it.
Management accounting explains what has happened and why, with real precision. CFO work is about what to do next: forecasting cash, modelling decisions before they are made, and planning stock, pricing and funding. The reporting is the foundation, and the CFO work is what it is for.
A monthly strategy meeting, the forecasting and modelling work behind it, and availability between meetings when a decision comes up. It is not an hourly arrangement, because watching a clock discourages exactly the conversations that are most valuable.
A rolling week-by-week projection of money in and out for the next quarter. Thirteen weeks is long enough to see a reorder, a tax payment or a seasonal dip coming while there is still time to act, and short enough to be built on known commitments rather than guesses. For an inventory business it is far more useful than an annual budget.
We help you work out what you need and when, compare structures on a true cost basis, and prepare what a lender or investor will ask for. We are not brokers and take no commission from lenders, so the recommendation can be that you should not borrow.
Plan 03 is $2,500 a month and includes everything in management accounting plus forecasting, planning and the monthly strategy meeting. For comparison, a full-time finance director in the US is a six-figure salary before benefits.
Yes, and that is the usual path. Most clients start on Plan 01 or 02 and move to CFO support when a decision arrives that justifies it. Because we already hold the books and the reporting, there is no onboarding cost to step up.
